Among the numerous stories surrounding AC/DC, one of the most poignant is the tragic demise of their original vocalist, Ronald Belford “Bon” Scott. After contributing to six years and seven albums with the band, Scott’s life was cut short at the tender age of 33.
The events leading to Scott’s passing unfolded after a night of heavy drinking at the London club, The Music Machine. Subsequently, Scott sought refuge in a friend’s car to sleep off the effects of alcohol. However, the morning brought the devastating discovery of Scott’s lifeless body, leading to his pronounced death upon arrival at the hospital.
Officially, Scott’s cause of death was attributed to “acute alcohol poisoning.” Yet, this explanation has not quelled the speculation among fans. Some believe that the circumstances surrounding Scott’s death remain shrouded in mystery, with theories suggesting the possibility of carbon monoxide poisoning from the car’s exhaust fumes or negligence on the part of a third party. The argument gains traction by considering Scott’s asthma and the freezing weather as potential contributing factors.
Regardless of the varying conjectures, Scott’s untimely demise was formally classified as “death by misadventure” in the official ruling.
The tragic loss of Bon Scott remains etched in the annals of rock history, serving as a somber reminder of the fragility of life and the shadows that sometimes linger behind the spotlight.
