AC/DC Facts – Part Three

The Wedding Singers

When Dave Evans led the band in its early days, they played a set of Chuck Berry and Rolling Stones songs at a close friend’s wedding. One of the guests requested that they play Zorba the Greek, but the band was unaware of this. “When Malcolm said ‘Give me a minute,’ he went away and practiced for a while, just by ear. Malcolm then said, ‘Tell him yeah, we’ll do it.'”

Bon’s wheels

Bon Scott’s motorbike riding skills were legendary, earning him the nickname Ronnie Roadtest.

Bon’s Tonic

Bon’s early morning practice was to gargle with red wine and honey to help maintain the raspy edge in his voice.

Christmas Cards from the Grave

When Bon Scott sent out his Christmas cards in 1979, as he did every year, he did not pay enough postage, resulting in many of the cards being delayed and arriving late, after he died on February 19, 1980.

Bon’s first time.

Bon Scott first performed live with AC/DC on Brian Johnson’s birthday, October 5, 1975.

Bon’s Laundry

Bon preferred a large crease in his pants and could frequently be seen straightening his stage attire on the bar before a show.

Angus’s Gibson SG

Angus Young is well-known for playing the Gibson SG guitar, which is now his signature. The explanation is that the SG guitar neck is the only one he can comfortably wrap his hands around.

Brian Johnson’s First Audition

At Brian Johnson’s first audition he sang Whole Lotta Rosie, Highway To Hell and Ike and Tina Tuner’s Nutbush City Limits. At his second audition at London’s Ezee Hire Studios, he was asked to come up with the lyrics to Given The Dog A Bone.

Unintentional Art.

Bon arrived late for the band’s debut engagement at the Hammersmith Odeon in November 1976. Manager Michael Browning had dispatched a roadie out to photograph the band’s name in lights. When the photographs were analysed, they showed Bon Scott coming up the stairs, backpack thrown over his shoulder.
