The Black Crowes are an American rock band formed in Marietta, Georgia, in 1984. Their discography includes eight studio albums, four live albums and several charting singles. At their heart are the Robinson Brothers, Chris and Rich. They burst onto the world stage with their first studio album ‘Shake Your Money Maker’ which contained hit singles ‘Hard to Handle’, ‘She Talks to Angels’, ‘Jealous Again’, and ‘Twice as Hard’. They have sold over 30 million albums and were voted Rolling Stone ‘Best New American Band’ in 1990. In 1991 at the height of their fame, lead singer Chris Robinson was arrested after a gig trying to buy beer after hours at a 7-Eleven. Fans in the store recognised him,’That’s the lead singer of the Black Crowes’ but the plump female cashier replied ‘Who are the Black Crowes?’ This upset Robinson who said ‘You’d be aware of The Black Crowes if you didn’t eat so many Twinkies’. The cashier took exception, a squabble ensued, and Robinson was led away in handcuffs.
