Daryl Hall and John Oates formed their duo in 1970 and went on to achieve their greatest fame between the mid 1970’s and mid 1980’s with their unique fusion of rock and roll and rhythm and blues. Their biggest hits were ‘Rich Girl’, ‘Private Eyes’, ‘I Can’t Go for That’, ‘Maneater’, and ‘Out of Touch’. They met leading their own bands at a battle of the bands competition, but when gunfire broke out among rival gangs they both hid in the same service elevator. They discovered they both shared the same musical tastes and were both at Temple University in Philadelphia. Subsequently, they have had over 34 chart hits on the Billboard Hot 100 and produced 7 platinum albums. In 2003 they were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. They hate being called ‘Hall and Oates’ and have never used the name on any of their records, preferring instead to credit themselves as ‘Daryl Hall John Oates’. They have sold over 40 million records.
