Jon Bon Jovi, is an American singer-songwriter, record producer, philanthropist, and actor. Bon Jovi is best known as the founder and frontman of the Grammy Award winning rock band Bon Jovi, which was formed in 1983. He has found success both in music and as an actor but he is most respected for his philanthropic work. In 2005 while on the Oprah Winfrey Show, Bon Jovi as a band donated $1 million to her Angel Network foundation. He founded the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation in 2006 which focuses its efforts on the issues of hunger and homelessness in the United States. In 2007 he funded a project to rehabilitate a tower block of 15 homes in North Philadelphia. In 2010 he was appointed by Barack Obama onto the White Council for Community Solutions. Then in 2011 he founded the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Kitchen, a community canteen where patrons either pay what they can or by volunteering work. It isn’t widely known but Jon is a blood relative of Hoboken’s finest, Frank Sinatra. He describes himself as a recovering Catholic.
