Tosh was one of the core members of The Wailers along with Bunny Waller and Bob Marley, after which he established himself as a successful solo artist. In the mid 1960’s The Wailers rejected the trend of up tempo ska and slowed their music down, settling on a more rocksteady rhythm. It’s when they teamed up with producer Lee Perry that they hit upon the formula that would become popularised as Reggae. He was a fierce anti-apartheid campaigner and received a Grammy award for best Reggae performance for his last record – ‘No Nuclear War’. Tosh was shot and killed during a home invasion in his home in Jamaica in 1987
