Prince Rogers Nelson. Unmistakably one of the greatest musicians of his generation. A giant of world music who stood only 5ft 2″ tall. A prolific musical genius Prince wrote over 600 songs in his life, that’s more than the Beatles, and released 39 albums. Not only did he produce records that sold over 150 million copies for himself, he also wrote for other artists, including ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ and ‘Manic Monday’. He was born into a musical family in Minneapolis, and his father (John) had a successful band, the Prince Rogers Jazz Trio. His variety and appeal were universal, and his genius was recognised with the Grammy President’s Merit award, an Academy award, a Golden Globe, handfuls of Grammies, Brits, MTV, and American Music awards. A once in a lifetime artist.
