You may know Rick from his band Cheap Trick, but did you know that his mum and dad were opera singers and the family owned a music shop? Rick started out playing drums but after six years switched to guitar. Cheap Trick formed in and initially found fame in Japan rather than the US. Unusually for an American rock band in the 1970’s Cheap Trick loved making music videos for their songs, so when MTV started up in 1981 they played a lot of Cheap Trick because there was nothing else available at the time. With Cheap Trick, Neilsen has performed live more than 3,700 times and has sold more than 20 million albums. As a solo artist Rick has worked with artists like John Lennon, The Yardbirds, Hall & Oates, Motley Crue, Alice Cooper, and Gene Simmons. Cheap Trick was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016
