Sade Adu signed her first record contract with Epic Records in 1983 and took six weeks to record their first album ‘Diamond Life’. The album was a smash hit winning the Brit Award for Best British Album in 1985 and was the best selling debut album by a British female vocalist ever. Though she was now a massive international star who Sade remains intensely private and unconcerned with the trappings of fame. Her career is marked by outbursts of brilliant creativity followed by years on hiatus. She was honoured with an O.B.E by the Queen for her services to the British music industry in 2002 and elevated to C.B.E. in 2017.
