Jonathan Gray of the Quireboys aka Spike. Formed in 1984 in London the band was originally called the Queerboys but a wise manager suggested this may not play well with the rock audience. They were booked to play Reading Festival in 1987 on condition they changed their name, so they did. They built a cult following by playing at the Marquee club in London. They found success in the late 1980’s with their debut album ‘A Bit of What You Fancy’ which reached number 2 in the UK charts. They were managed by Sharon Osbourne who got them on as support to The Rolling Stones at St James Park and then playing as a headline to 72,000 fans at Donington Monsters of Rock alongside Whitesnake, Aerosmith, Poison, and Thunder. They are still active.
