The Lords of head down 12 bar rock and roll were formed at school by Alan Lancaster (middle) and Francis Rossi (right). Rick Parfitt (left) joined in 1967 and the classic Quo line up was completed by drummer John Coghlan. They have appeared on BBC’s ‘Top of the Pop’s and performed at Wembley Arena more times than any other band in history. They first found success leaping aboard the late 60’s psychedelic bandwagon with their first hit single ‘Pictures of Matchstick Men’, but success didn’t change them and they soon reverted to their 12 bar roots. They are unique in that they are idolised in the UK but never conquered America. They still managed to sell 118 million records and hold the record for more UK hit singles than any band ever, so much so that Quo have spent in excess of 7 ½ years in the British singles charts. They are the only band in history to have Top 20 hits across five decades. They opened the global event that was ‘Live Aid’ in 1985 playing their aptly named theme tune: ‘Rockin’ All Over the World’.
