Starting out as a New Jersey cover band in 1972 Twisted Sister paid their dues and with the addition of Dee Snider began to gain popularity. They got their first record deal in 1982 after the Snider line-up had performed more than 2000 shows together. The band’s agent Kevin Brenner had told them the band could only go so far without being able to cover Led Zeppelin and urged them to hire Snider. It did the trick, and although the first two albums found only moderate success it was enough to get them top support slot for Motorhead. It was their appearance on UK TV’s The Tube that sold them to Atlantic Records and set the scene for ‘Stay Hungry’ which sold more than 3 million copies.
